My new friend at the horse lots, Pampa, TX.
He loves weeds and being patted on his neck.

![]() ![]() US President Franklin D. Roosevelt Forbids Hoarding of Gold (1933)Executive Order 6102 required US citizens and businesses to turn in all but a small amount of gold to the Federal Reserve in exchange for $20.67 per ounce. It came in the midst of a banking crisis, when the stability of paper currency was in doubt. Consequently, many tried to withdraw their money and redeem it for gold, which was considered safer. However, there simply was not enough gold in the US—or the world—to cover the nation's debts. How many people were prosecuted for violating the order? More... Discuss |

I took a few more photos, but it was so dark and was starting to drizzle some and I am always fearful of being confronted by some of the owners of lots/animals out there. I know the owners of these pens, though.
A lot of the people who have animals out there are defensive, as well they should be, over the mistreatment of some horses out there last year around this time.
That was a sad case, and I'd like to know whatever happened with those animals.
I didn't see any gross neglect this time, but even some of these ol' mules (more photos later) could've used a little more meat on their bones, a little more fat for the hard winter to come.
This pen and most of the others could use a little more cleaning, I'd have to say. I always feel sorry for any large animal having to be cooped up in such a small space.
I would like to spend more time out there observing these mules; I enjoy seeing the herd "pecking order".
On my way out, I saw a fairly new SUV, a young woman hugging on a calico cat then setting it down. I could see the cat tentatively sniffing the ground, and I am sure that the woman was "dumping" her cat out there.
I can't condemn her, because I've abandoned cats in a worse place (never again) and it's probably a much better place to take it than the pound. (although I'm a firm believer in spaying and neutering)
I tried to take a photo of a young black cat that was by the side of the road and sat there staring at me as I stopped to take a photo. It was gone as soon as I got the camera up to my eyes, though.
This reminds me of a woman our uncle used to be married to...know who I mean, Mike??
Yup.
