![]() ![]() Sidney Poitier Becomes the First African American to Win Best Actor Oscar (1964)The first African American to achieve leading man status in Hollywood, Poitier began acting with the American Negro Theatre in New York City and made his film debut soon after. He won acclaim on Broadway for his role in 1959's A Raisin in the Sun and, in 1964, became the first African American to win the Academy Award for Best Actor, for his role in Lilies of the Field. That was fun!
I got to see Ray Davies back in the 90's. He was doing this solo show that was a Story Tellers sort of thing. It was a sort of retrospective of Kinks music and his life story. That man put on a great show and in such a small venue it was initmate, like a sit down chat.
I clicked around and played a couple more old recordings that youtube brought up, "Set me Free","All Day & All of the Night" & "Tired of Waiting" ( forgot his brother Dave sang that one)
