The guy just behind Tommy James (the lead singer) playing rhythm guitar looks a lot like I used to with "long" hair.
Also, the lead guitarist loses his tremelo or "whammy" bar in the middle of the tune and you can see him put it in his mouth for a little while.
I couldn't have long hair in h.s. (in the 70's) because it was forbidden. In fact, several of us were told we had to get haircuts or we couldn't graduate.
My hair has always been too fine and thin to be conducive for a longer styling. I keep it buzzed off now; used to shave my head but that is a hassle.
We used to have a band practice in our garage out in the country, a couple of guys were my big sister's classmates - this was one of the songs they covered.
