  As the World Turns Premieres (1956)Soap operas began in the early 1930s as 15-minute radio episodes and continued in that format when they began appearing on TV in the early 1950s. As the World Turns premiered as the first half-hour TV soap. The show, which primarily focused on two professional families in the fictional town of Oakdale, Illinois, ran for 54 years and aired nearly 14,000 episodes. Thank you so much for this, Mike.
For me, one of the first Pink Floyd songs to which I tripped, and the haunting words... especially those in the second verse, "Did you exchange, a walk on part in the war, for a lead role in a cage?" moved me then, and still does today.

By "tripped", do you mean what I think you do? -grin-
I made the mistake of drinking some punch at a party off campus at college, right before we all loaded up and drove to Lubbock to watch "The Exorcist". First time f/ me and sure wish I could have been informed about it beforehand.
