Tolbert Is Killed in Military Coup (1980)Liberia was founded in the 1820s by former slaves from the US, and tensions between the Americo-Liberian minority and the indigenous majority have persisted since that time. On April 12, 1980, a group of soldiers led by Samuel Kanyon Doe stormed the executive mansion, killing Americo-Liberian President William R. Tolbert and 27 other government leaders. I love that song. The harmony is so simple and just perfect for their voices. I really enjoyed listening to this. Have you heard the version by Maroon 5? A pale version of the real thing!
Okay---I've had this song stuck in my head for the entire weekend. I'm driving myself CRAZY!!
Elle said it was one of her favorite tunes, too, although she was more of an ABBA fan than Beatles.
Never heard that Maroon 5 version. I've barely heard of that group and couldn't name a single tune they've done.
I've been meaning to work up a post about remakes of movies/covers of songs that were as good as or better than the original. The song category could have several listings, but there's not many movies that were better the second time around.
