  As the World Turns Premieres (1956)Soap operas began in the early 1930s as 15-minute radio episodes and continued in that format when they began appearing on TV in the early 1950s. As the World Turns premiered as the first half-hour TV soap. The show, which primarily focused on two professional families in the fictional town of Oakdale, Illinois, ran for 54 years and aired nearly 14,000 episodes. That was neat. Used to make simple ones when I was bored at school.
I did too, Barb, after reading an article about one of the first "motion pictures", which was a series of photos on celluloid set into a circle w/ a light in the middle and when the circle was spun, it looked like the horse was running. I wasn't too artistic, so I usually just made geometric designs that rotated.
I had a friend who used to draw some pretty bad ones of a guy and girl. He'd have got into a lot of trouble if the teacher had found it. Another guy used to draw a picture every day on the top right hand corner of a spiral notebook - he was a pretty good artist and it looked cool when he'd flip through it.
