  As the World Turns Premieres (1956)Soap operas began in the early 1930s as 15-minute radio episodes and continued in that format when they began appearing on TV in the early 1950s. As the World Turns premiered as the first half-hour TV soap. The show, which primarily focused on two professional families in the fictional town of Oakdale, Illinois, ran for 54 years and aired nearly 14,000 episodes. We are tv show lovers. Valerie has started watching tv with Joe and is enjoying westerns.
I used to watch this show; it was silly, but funny. I liked Arnold the Pig the best.
I was reading about this show after posting this and it was part of a "universe" including The Beverly Hillbillies & Petticoat Junction and I think another but can't remember. Some characters from the shows appeared on other programs. They all had decent ratings, but the network canceled them (along w/ Hee Haw) b/c they didn't want to be labeled as a "rural channel".
