Roosevelt Forbids Hoarding of Gold (1933)Executive Order 6102 required US citizens and businesses to turn in all but a small amount of gold to the Federal Reserve in exchange for $20.67 per ounce. It came in the midst of a banking crisis, when the stability of paper currency was in doubt. Consequently, many tried to withdraw their money and redeem it for gold, which was considered safer. Oh what a sleek car - want one !
Very nice, huh? I wanted to take more photos of it, but was lucky to get a couple.
There was a guy standing there talking to some others; he had a big ol' expensive camera and snickered when he saw my little P&S. He came very close to getting knocked on his butt.
I wouldn't refuse this car if someone wanted to gift me with it, but I'd really rather have the Thunderbird I posted pics of the other day.
