There are quite a few videos of girls doing this on YouTube; as the article I linked to says, the girls are copying a scene from Pitch Perfect where a girl does it auditioning. The actress is Anna Kendrick and she does it on Letterman.

I wonder how many times it took them to get that right? I wouldn't mind just hearing them sing a song. Their harmony was nice to hear. It sounded nice even with all the clapping and "thunking" of those plastic cups.
