Roosevelt Forbids Hoarding of Gold (1933)Executive Order 6102 required US citizens and businesses to turn in all but a small amount of gold to the Federal Reserve in exchange for $20.67 per ounce. It came in the midst of a banking crisis, when the stability of paper currency was in doubt. Consequently, many tried to withdraw their money and redeem it for gold, which was considered safer. I hear ya, sis. Hope you're doing OK.
Getting laid off certainly wasn't in my plans at this late date in my life. I will get some severance pay, but will still need to look for another job before long. I have applied for my social security retirement since I will be 66 this month and am now eligible for the full amount. But, that isn't enough for me to live off of so I will need another job. I doubt I ever really get to fully "retire." It sucks.....
