![]() ![]() Buchenwald Concentration Camp Liberated by American Troops (1945)Buchenwald was one of the first and largest concentration camps in Nazi Germany. As US forces closed in on the camp near the end of WWII, the Nazis began evacuating its prisoners, forcing them on "death marches" during which an estimated 13,500 were killed. On April 9, inmates at the camp used a makeshift radio transmitter to inform the Allies about the evacuations and beg for help. Oh my word, eiterh that is the narrowest donkey in the world or it's just a funny camera angle. He sure is shaggy tho.
My gosh, I never noticed that. Sheesh. I was just going thru some albums/folders I have and looked through the best of the rest that I hadn't posted.
I always feel a little sorry for those animals like that; I guess it's just because I was brought up to take care of one's animals and that includes spending some time w/ them. Some of these horses/goats/donkeys/mules, etc. sure seem starved for attention.
Some, as you've said in an earlier post, are a little bit "lean", not mistreated but not treated to MY standards and I'm fairly realistic about animal's place in the world.
Wish I had a little bit of land where I could have some animals like I've photographed.
