This Day in History
  Founding of The Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter-Day Saints (1830)Shortly after Joseph Smith published the Book of Mormon in 1830, he officially founded The Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter-day Saints—also known as the Mormon Church—in Fayette, New York. The church flourished but was forced to relocate frequently. It was violently expelled from Missouri, and a mob killed Smith in Illinois in 1844. His successor, Brigham Young, led followers to Utah three years later. Tensions with the US government continued to escalate, culminating in what war? More... Discuss |

I remember the first time I ever heard their music -they're one of my all-time favorite groups.
I almost bought a 1967 Plymouth Barracuda for my second car because of their song by the same name, but my dad talked me out of it. It had a HUGE engine in it and he probably thought I would kill myself in it (and I might have) but he used the argument that it wouldn't get very good gas mileage. (and it wouldn't have) I wound up getting a '67 Fairlane instead, but I sure loved to crank up my 8-track and listen to Heart.
Like so many musicians, though, they've annoyed me w/ some of their comments. I don't expect anyone to have the same views as I do (but they should!) but they went a little overboard w/ some of their criticisms of a past president, yet are strangely silent w/ a different administration. Oh well. I still listen to their tunes, though.
They've got some great "unplugged" stuff, used to be on Yahoo.
