![]() ![]() Founding of The Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter-Day Saints (1830)Shortly after Joseph Smith published the Book of Mormon in 1830, he officially founded The Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter-day Saints—also known as the Mormon Church—in Fayette, New York. I remember the first time I ever heard their music -they're one of my all-time favorite groups.
I almost bought a 1967 Plymouth Barracuda for my second car because of their song by the same name, but my dad talked me out of it. It had a HUGE engine in it and he probably thought I would kill myself in it (and I might have) but he used the argument that it wouldn't get very good gas mileage. (and it wouldn't have) I wound up getting a '67 Fairlane instead, but I sure loved to crank up my 8-track and listen to Heart.
Like so many musicians, though, they've annoyed me w/ some of their comments. I don't expect anyone to have the same views as I do (but they should!) but they went a little overboard w/ some of their criticisms of a past president, yet are strangely silent w/ a different administration. Oh well. I still listen to their tunes, though.
They've got some great "unplugged" stuff, used to be on Yahoo.
Thanks f/ posting!
In the summer of '72.
