Una Paloma Blanca - George Baker Selection

This is a great Saturday vid; the song was used in the movie The Executioner's Song, the true story of Gary "Let's Do It" Gilmore, the first person executed after the 1976 Supreme Court decision on capital punishment.

The song is playing on the radio as Gilmore, in a fantastic performance by Tommy Lee Jones, is being driven to another building where he is to be executed by firing squad.

Mike, do you remember ever seeing a movie called "The Execution of Private Slovik?" I think that's how it's spelled. It was one of the first movies I can remember seeing Martin Sheen as an actor. He was playing Eddie Slovik who was the last person executed by the Army for desertion. I don't think I've ever had a movie make such an impression on me. I would like to see it again (I think) Maybe it's not as good as I think it was, but Martin Sheen sure was convincing in that role. I wonder now where I saw it. Do you remember it at all?

It's snowing here in the Dallas area. It was in the 80's this time last week. Strange, huh?

Yes, I do. It was a '74 TV movie and you can read about it on IMDB

In fact, I've been thinking of posting some movie/video reviews, maybe w/ some YouTube trailers, or at least maybe making a list of my top 100 films. I think Pvt. Slovik would be on the list, it was that good of a movie.

Sheen also did another tv movie around the same time: Badlands that would make my list, and I've got a YouTube trailer for it. (I d/l the "theme" song for it, a Carl Orf xylophone piece called "Musica Poetica", very pretty.)

I remember Mom and I watching Badlands, and she enjoyed it and told me it must've been a thinly disguised retelling of theStarkweather-Fugate killing spree of the 1950's

Snowed here last night, blew like the dickens. Snowed the night before, but the storm followed Hwy 60 to the south and missed us.
