From landelli.com.mx, a 404 page that literally stops you in your surfing tracks.

Although, I think stop signs in Mexico say "ALTO" and also in Central and S. America.  The website is in Spanish, but I guess only stupid gringos like me click on broken links, hence the English 404 page.

Did you know about the "Streisand Effect"? 

The term refers to the 2003 attempt by Barbara Streisand to keep photos of her home from being posted online. It is now used to describe the phenomenon whereby an attempt to hide or remove a piece of information has the unintended consequence of publicizing the information more widely.

Tomato Soup Typo

I've got a lot of these saved up but had forgotten about them;  I was thinking that they'd make a great "Recipe Typos" label/category.

This one is from today (which is why I remembered the others I have been taking screen shots of) from the LuckySamples website, one of their daily recipe offerings. (click pic f/ larger size)

At first, I thought "What are 'candiced' stewed tomatoes?  Are they from some region in Italy called "Candice"?" I then wondered if it was a typo for "candied tomatoes"?  Ugh.

Then it dawned on me there was a space missing between "can" and "diced".  Duh.  My thick-headed thinking is funnier than the actual typo. 

Not to me, but probably is to you.

Fried Bologna Sandwich

Dino Game

This is a game that's "supposed" to be able to be played on Chrome even while offline.  I just tried it and couldn't get it to work, but that doesn't mean anything...except that I am not able to follow simple directions, a distinct possibility. 

They provide the code to embed it, though; hit the space bar to start, also using it to jump over the cactus - use the down arrow to crouch.

I just saw a post in a frequently visited forum where one of the resident Leftists said Labor Day was in honor of and a celebration of Socialism. 

Good grief.

No, it's a celebration of the American worker...who has his/her job because of capitalism. Even govt. workers have their jobs because of the taxes paid from the work of taxpayers.

I just got my Taste of Home recipe newsletter and as is always the case, they also put in a few ads.  I don't mind them too much and generally ignore them but this one caught my attention:

I wonder what 1 simple trick in Photoshop they used to make that woman's eyes look so green?  If they didn't alter the photo, then I wonder if there's 1 simple trick to removing those vivid green contacts, because I think that woman wearing them stared too long into an X-Ray machine.  If it's not that, then I wonder if there's 1 simple trick to exorcising that demon that's inside her?

Food Porn

Being an avid collector of online recipes (several thousand in PDF) as well as subscribing to dozens and dozens of recipe websites in my reader, I have seen the term "Food Porn" tossed around quite a bit.  It's always puzzled me to an extent;  I know the ones using the term mean something as self-indulgent and addictive as porn, but it never made much sense to me.  After all, I learned as a young man you simply cannot be hungry and horny at the same time.  You can be one or the other, but never, ever both...that's just a fact of life.

(that's also why the fetish of combining food and sex, i.e. fruit or whipped cream semi-disgusts me...it's just not my bag, man. Let me at the sexy woman...or the strawberry cheesecake, but one at a time!)

Then, after seeing this video about Salisbury Steak, it dawned on me why the term "Food Porn" is used on recipe presentations;  it's the music!
