I like this video and would really like to have one of these pasta rollers.

Tomato Soup Typo
I've got a lot of these saved up but had forgotten about them; I was thinking that they'd make a great "Recipe Typos" label/category.
This one is from today (which is why I remembered the others I have been taking screen shots of) from the LuckySamples website, one of their daily recipe offerings. (click pic f/ larger size)
At first, I thought "What are 'candiced' stewed tomatoes? Are they from some region in Italy called "Candice"?" I then wondered if it was a typo for "candied tomatoes"? Ugh.
Then it dawned on me there was a space missing between "can" and "diced". Duh. My thick-headed thinking is funnier than the actual typo.
Not to me, but probably is to you.

Food Porn
Being an avid collector of online recipes (several thousand in PDF) as well as subscribing to dozens and dozens of recipe websites in my reader, I have seen the term "Food Porn" tossed around quite a bit. It's always puzzled me to an extent; I know the ones using the term mean something as self-indulgent and addictive as porn, but it never made much sense to me. After all, I learned as a young man you simply cannot be hungry and horny at the same time. You can be one or the other, but never, ever both...that's just a fact of life.
(that's also why the fetish of combining food and sex, i.e. fruit or whipped cream semi-disgusts me...it's just not my bag, man. Let me at the sexy woman...or the strawberry cheesecake, but one at a time!)
Then, after seeing this video about Salisbury Steak, it dawned on me why the term "Food Porn" is used on recipe presentations; it's the music!

At Least I Got a Banana
I watched a video earlier this evening on YouTube about how to roast a goose; it was a good one w/ no talking and stupid music, just captions but they didn't list an oven temperature. I've watched similar videos before and since the end result looked perfect, I wanted to know what oven temperature they used; some recipes call for a lower temperature (325 F.)for several hours to render the fat and then raising it up in the last hour or so of cooking to crisp the skin. Other recipes say to heat the oven to 400 deg.
I saw a link in the description to the Kitchen Stories website, but a search didn't turn up the recipe and instead I got this:
Oh well, at least I got a banana.

Olive Tree Trivia
An olive tree can live over 2000 yrs.
That bit of trivia makes me hungry for some Tapenade.
Not sure that I'd want it every day for two centuries, though.

The Worm Didn't Turn
Cute 404 page on The Food Channel:
I was a little disappointed I wasn't able to find the recipe for Chicken Alfredo Soup right away, but I guess it's like real life; it's better to bite into an apple and find a worm than biting into one and finding half a worm.

Allrecipes
Last month I posted a video and review of Food Wishes, a part of Allrecipes. Today I'm focusing on the "parent" site and YouTube channel.
I've subscribed to Allrecipes in my reader for nearly as long as I've been using a reader and it's one of my favorite recipes sites. Just like any other site, I don't care for ALL the recipes, but most seem to be great and I particularly like reading the reviews of a recipe before deciding to save it or not. Also, like any recipe site worth its salt (no pun intended...at least, not until after I had written it), it's easy to navigate, with well-defined categories and many of the recipes have accompanying videos.
There's the option to go "Pro" for a fee, nothing too outrageous IMHO. This allows the subscriber a menu planner, a custom recipe feature that allows alterations to a dish, advanced printer options and nutrition search not available with the "freebie" membership. (Disclaimer: I'm a cheapskate and have the free membership.)
Along with their regular YouTube channel, they have a UK version: Allrecipes UK | Ireland. (If the vids were narrated by a sexy Irish female accent, I'd probably subscribe, to heck with the metric ingredient measurements!)
Here's one of the latest videos; I've been craving these for a while.

Laura in the Kitchen
One of my favorite YouTube recipe feeds is Laura in the Kitchen. Oh, I know what you'll say after you watch the video below...she's good lookin', that's why I watch her. Well, it doesn't hurt that she's pretty, but that's not the reason I watch her. I find her engaging and her recipes are things I think I'd like to make. I also like it that her videos aren't perfect, she misspeaks now 'n then and recently has started including bloopers after the main video is over.
She also has a makeup/style channel, as well as one with her husband, but I'm not in the least bit interested in either of those. No, I'm here for the food!
The pretty face is a bonus, though.
I think that, with a little more polish, she could have her own show on the Food Network, maybe even displace the resident Italian hottie.

Food Wishes
One of my favorite YouTube channels is that of Food Wishes; I first became acquainted with it via Allrecipes, another of my most-liked recipe sites. I subscribe to their feed in my reader, as well as the Food Wishes blog.
Under almost every video from "Chef John", there's someone complaining about his narration. (it's usually because he'll end quite a few sentences with a rising inflection. Personally, I like it.) That aside, what I always look forward to are his attempts - sometimes corny - to insert some humor into the vid. Others object to his propensity to add cayenne to nearly every recipe. I haven't seen EVERY video, but all of the latest ones have a similar joke analogy, such as "But you do it as you like...after all, you're the power behind the flour."
Maybe not the best video or the greatest recipe, but it IS the latest and a good one...with a pinch of cayenne.

Hot or Cold Dinks
I was just reading an article from one of my recipe sites, Spiced. The recipe was Homemade Chocolate Ice Cream and the author was writing about his favorite ice cream flavor being vanilla, but why wasn't there a vanilla syrup for chocolate ice cream like there is chocolate syrup for vanilla?
Well, I've never used it for ice cream, but there IS such a thing as vanilla syrup and I started to reply and say so...but I didn't want to be one of those insufferable people who feel the need to point things like that out to others.
I mean, I don't want to be one of those people any longer; I'm working on that, honest.
I've seen vanilla syrup in grocery stores, usually in the coffee aisle, right there with the powdered flavorings and creamers and the liquid form is in the milk section along with the other perishable items that need to be refrigerated. A quick search online shows that you can make it yourself, or buy it from Walmart or Amazon. I've never made a simple syrup w/ vanilla, but it sounds easy enough and the closest to an ice cream syrup; personally, I've never cared for the coffee flavorings - they just don't taste very good and leave an aftertaste.
Back in grade school, I fell in love with a girl who sat right next to me. I was far too young to be physically attracted to her, but there was *something* about her that drew me to her. I finally worked up the courage to tell her she really, really smelled good and she told me her mother wouldn't let her wear perfume, so she dabbed a little bit of vanilla extract behind her ears.
That was when I learned a life lesson; boys are either hungry or horny, one or the other, all the time...just not both at the same time.
Maybe that's what I need to do; create a perfume that smells like baked goods. Oh wait, they already have.
Anyway...something caught my eye on the Amazon listing:
