I saw this video on the KotH FB fan page and wrote under it about going to IMDb the other day and reading a thread that was titled "Hank Hill is a horrible person". The person's main objections were about how Hank treated Bobby, not allowing him to follow his dreams and do as he liked. Good grief, I don't know many parents who had much success with letting their kids do anything they liked, and all too often, Hank stopped Bobby from doing something he knew Bobby would later regret. (like the modeling show)

I understood where they were coming from, but they just didn't "get it.". Hank is my age (a year or so younger, I believe) and he was raised in a different time, a time bridging the gap between sets of values. I understood how he felt because it's hard trying to cling to the past and still embrace the future.

When I say "Hank", I'm really talking about Mike Judge, the creator/writer of the series. He poked a little bit of gentle fun at the Texas stereotypes, some of which are true, but his humor wasn't savage like that of Family Guy or similar shows and I accept it w/ good nature b/c Judge is a Texan.

Even when Hank was wrong, he realized it eventually and when he made mistakes, his heart was in the right place. Many of the shows teach a moral lesson; work hard, be a good citizen, be faithful to your friends and family. No, Hank was a GOOD person - a little square, but a good person. The world needs more Hank Hills. Hell, TEXAS could use more Hank Hills.
