Spider

There's not a lot to Spider; at first, it looks like it's only a tiny spider on the screen, its movement controlled by your cursor, but when you DO move it, a "dog" (I guess it's a dog - looks like a bird's head on a dog's body to me) comes out and follows the spider around the screen.  Stop, and the dog? peers at it intently. Click the spider and it will jump up and if the dog is near enough to it, it will jump up as well, startled.

Ehhh....it's OK, better than some of the time wasters I've posted lately but not nearly as good as others.   The thing that would make it better would be if the dog ATE the spider like most would in real life.

Farewell Faithful Fido

Did you know President Lincoln's dog Fido was "assassinated" by a drunk in Springfield, IL. just a year after Lincoln was shot and killed?  Fido, a yellow retriever-shepherd mix had been the President's faithful companion for over five years.

Smiley Bebe

We used to have a part Chihuahua that would smile like this. Her name was Tina and she was also part terrier, as I recall. I remember she and I both getting in trouble for rolling in the dirt. (Hey, she was doing it and looked like she was havin' fun!)

She used to go with us on vacations and one summer - for whatever reason - she was left home. (Dad's relief for his vacation was going to feed and water her) I remember her being so upset and trying to follow us. When we got home, she was gone. We figured a coyote had got her, but quite some time later she was found with some people down in Miami. They had found her by the side of the road, several miles from our house. A friend of the family had seen Tina at a neighbor's house and told my folks. Long story short, Tina was thrilled to see us.

In the meantime, Tina had "hooked up" with a poodle and had some strange looking puppies.

I don't remember what happened to Tina, if perhaps she did have an encounter with a coyote or just died of old age. We had two puppies out of her (EDIT to add more info, thanks to my Big Sis, read comments if you like.) and wound up with Sugar - Tina's tiny poodle-like grand-daughter - for years and she finally died of old age.

Anti-Police Dog

You've heard of police dogs? This is an anti-police dog.

A Chattanooga Police officer, while running radar at 1410 Workman Road on Sunday night, had his patrol car attacked by a ferocious bulldog.

Officer Clayton Holmes said he had stopped to work on a report when he felt his car shaking. He got out to investigate and what he found was a bulldog chewing on his patrol car.

The dog chewed two tires and the entire front bumper off of the car.

Fishing Dog

This dog is a better fisherman than me.

At least it catches something.

Why do dogs pee on hydrants?

Via Bits & Pieces

Why do dogs pee on hydrants?:

Dog_hydrantDogs—like all other canids—leave urine conspicuously splashed on all manner of object. Urine marking, as this method of communication is called, conveys a message. Every dog owner is familiar with the raised-leg marking of fire hydrants, lampposts, trees, bushes. Most marked spots are high or prominent: better to be seen, and better for the odor to be smelled.

From observations of the behavior of sniffing dogs, it appears that the chemicals in the urine give information about, for females, sexual readiness, and for males, their social confidence. The prevailing myth is that the message is “this is mine,” that dogs urinate to “mark territory.” But research has failed to bear this out as the exclusive, or even predominant, use of urine marking. Instead, marking seems to leave information about who the urinator is, how often he walks by this spot, his recent victories, and his interest in mating. In this way, the invisible pile of scents on the hydrant becomes a community bulletin board, with old, deteriorating announcements and requests peeking out from underneath more recent posts.
