I feel sorry for those who relied upon groups for their sole social interaction, but other than those folks, I feel nothing for most everyone else.

Face it: it was a crap shoot when you clicked on a group's URL...you never knew if it would come up or you'd get "Page Not Found". Even when the service was working, sometimes it would take ages to navigate from group to group or even from one post to another.

Also, I had a quick look-see through the list of groups because someone said "millions" still used the service and found that nearly every group was private. There was no way that people could see what was in the group and also no way that the search engines could index the site.

I've posted stuff in this blog and had hits on it within the hour from Google!

The only thing I semi-begrudge is the time I wasted in Comms/Groups. Of course, I met some of my very best online friends there, but I also met some raging buttwipes there, too. It gives me a bit of satisfaction to read how agonized they are over this news.

Plus, they wasted a LOT more time than I did.; October 19, 2008 at 6:58 AM
