It sounded like them, Barb. I meant to go check after your post, but forgot.
Well, Sis, you could give it a shot, I guess. I started watched when it first came on, got through a couple of episodes, then sort of gave up on it. Hard for me to say why, but it made me a little uncomfortable, plus I've never been into any type of serial shows where you really can't skip an episode and pick it up later.
Walter White, the main character, gives a speech to his h.s. chemistry class, explaining that chemistry is basically transformation, elements broken down and then reborn and that's what happens to him. The first shows start out with some funny moments...even those that might make you cringe while giggling a little bit...then it got really dark as Walter changed and got dark.
It doesn't glamorize drug use; in fact, it does anything but that. I can't say there are really any heroes...even the good guys has some major flaws and the villains are amongst the scariest I've ever seen - prob. because you know there really are people as evil as that.
I don't know if the show could be enjoyed as much if you know how it turns out, but I think it's worth watching if for nothing else than the superb acting. I've got all the episodes and started catching up on the ones I missed when I stopped watching f/ a while.
I think it's the best drama series I've ever seen. I didn't get into The Sopranos until it was in reruns; it was a good series, but it had some not-so-good episodes and I can't think of a single BB show that wasn't good.
Was it perfect? Well, what is? There were some minor details that some people nitpick, but those are rare and don't detract from the overall plot.
What was interesting was the use of "flash forwards" that foretold important parts of the story or explained things as the timeline reached that point. Some people complained it made things confusing, but I disagree. What it did, at least for me, was to make me think about how that could tie into the storyline. Another interesting thing was the use of colors...esp. what color clothes the characters wore. It was so subtle, it really didn't make any difference if you noticed them or not, was just a mind game the writers played w/ the audience, I think.
One cool thing was the hat tips to other shows and the funniest thing was Bryan Cranston/Walter White wearing his "tighty whities" just like his character Hal did in Malcolm in the Middle.
The best thing was the roller coaster ride, not just with the plot, but how the viewer felt about each character. For example, Walter's wife Skyler got no love from me at the first, then I mellowed towards her, then hated her again and at the end, felt sympathy. Every person that Walt came into contact with was affected adversely by that relationship and I was also torn between like and dislike for him. I think that conflict was one of the things I really liked about the show...it was so well done, so well thought out, that it made me think about each episode until the next one aired.
Like I said, I think it's the best series ever, but I also understand it's not everyone's cup of tea. I'd say give it a go.
I might try some of the first episodes and see if it holds my interest. I want to watch Dexter, too. I might wait til it's winter time and I can't be outside. I've spent most of this gorgeous day sitting out on my swing with my book and my dog. That's my idea of an almost perfect day. I prefer that to sitting in front of the television, but I guess since it's on Netflix I could sit on my swing with my iPad and watch it just as easily that way.
I've nabbed all the Dexter episodes, too, but haven't watched any. Just saving up f/ a rainy day or when I quit my cable, which is going to be soon since there wasn't a lot on it I couldn't live w/out, plus they recently have had a contract dispute with Turner and none of those channels are on now, about a quarter of the few channels I cared to watch. I can watch any show I like on TV now on the channel's website, through Hulu or other places.
Anyway, people griped about Dexter's ending and I did watch the very last bit of it, strange since I didn't watch any of the rest, or haven't yet. I just wanted to see what the buzz was all about.
Been really cold the last couple of days, plus rainy before that. Not bad right now, around 70 but the wind is blowing a bit.
Trying to watch the game, but got up to change the Cowboys luck if I could...didn't work, Broncos just scored, maybe I need to go sit back down. I just don't care about football like I used to.
Anyway, give it a shot...I hate to say "You'll love it!" because just because I did (and ten million more people in the U.S. and millions more across the world all watched the finale). A lot of people like many shows that are on now and I can't see the attraction. People loved Lost and I tried, but just couldn't get into it. Walking Dead, Mad Men, several others that people rave about make me yawn, they just plain don't interest me.
I am surprised I like Supernatural b/c I generally don't like the vampire/ghost/werewolf/monsters-in-general genre. They've been on for eight/nine seasons I think and it's about to run out of steam.

Perfect! Was that really They May Be Giants? Love it.
I've never watched even one episode, but thought about watching it now since I have Netflix. Is it worth my time?

Wish I could edit that, if for nothing else than the grammar. "Even the good guys HAVE some major flaws."
Banged it out as fast as I could.
