They were for donations to the Coffee Memorial Blood Center, the reason for the show. (I'd mentioned this in an earlier post with pics from there)

You voted for ea. car w/ donations . They had some rocks in the bottom so they wouldn't blow away.

Now these were the glory years of muscle cars! When I got out of high school I rented a room in Currituck County with the family of a friend of mine who had a white chevelle ss 396, I cant remember if it was a '68 or '69 though, but it had to have been one of the most powerful stock street cars to ever come off the line. Just to be behind the wheel of one and turn it loose is one of those life altering experiences! lol well we were lucky we didnt get ourselves killed back in those days too. I guess if you think about it now, even the small economy cars being so much lighter can go from 0-60 as fast or faster, but back then the chrome on those old cars alone weighed near as much as the body of the new ones do! And with the carb on those things the fuel you used in a quarter mile race or two would carry you half a day of driving now or more! I see one or two every once and a while on the road, well the late 60's cars in general I mean.. most people cant afford the gas mileage even if they have one! But they are beautiful cars. Well I was a Chevy guy too and back then it was a big deal to what you drove, you would lose friends if they liked fords better, and it was those really crazy guys always had a Dodge.. they didnt care whether they had friends or not! LOL Well my first car was a 67 Pontiac Gran Prix, a convertible even! had a 400 small block in it, and it would peg the speedometer easily too. I wish I had held on to it. I really liked that car, but I had a chance to get my dream car, a 72 Trans Am and I let it go cheap. well I loved the TA and I don't think there was a better car built that would hold the road than that one. hell it sat so low you would really have to mess up bad to flip one or lose it in a curve. Not that I did such things! ;) But I did enjoy that car more than any other I had. I would have always liked to have a 67 or 68 camaro though, now that was my original dream car from the time I got my license until Smokey and the Bandit came out! ;) Even now though I think the body style of it was beautiful and if i could pick any car to have that would be it. Ok couldn't afford the gas now I guess, but I could smile looking at it!
great pics again Mike
thanks!

You're just trying to make me cry with the pic of the Chevelle SS, aren't you?

I miss my old muscle car.

When I sold mine it ws to a fella who told me he wanted it for a restore project. Showe dup with a photo album of some of his other car project to sort of prove his good intentions. It's sad, but at that point in time I just needed mortgate money and would have sold it to anyone who handed me the cash.
