Tortoises usually seem to be quite nervous and timid , well I guess they cant do much can they really , I miss mine and often wonder if its still alive, when I left Cyprus I packed everything and one the day I was leaving remembered about poor old Churchill who was packed into his winter box and still in his hibernation state in the garden shed ! well I didn't have much time to think who I could leave him with who would care for him like I did ,so in my hurry just gave him to my immediate neighbour who by now has probably left him crawling around her yard free to go everywhere and remembering now how she used to drive into her driveway like Speedy Gonzales I dread to think how he may be have been splattered ) : ,I feel bad at leaving him with the first person I came across that day ,I had him a very long time and should have been more thoughtful about his welfare. Oh well maybe I'm being pessimistic and he is still there eating his lettuce and tomatoes every day , will make a call today and find out ,hope its good news.
I have a turtle that hangs out in my yard much of the time. My dog found it in the backyard and it scared her half to death. I guess she had never come face to face with anything that looked like that! The poor little turtle is probably deaf now from her barking. I was real brave and put it on a Frisbee of Maggie's and took it to the front yard under my hedge. I've seen him/her (how can I tell?) several times now in my flower bed or under the hedge. I also have a toad and some rabbits that come to my back yard fairly often. It's kind of like living in a zoo around here anyway!
