San Jacinto Monument Cam

From the site: Experience views of La Porte, Texas from the perspective of the San Jacinto Monument.  Standing more than 567 feet tall, enjoy amazing views of the city, busy waterway and the Battleship Texas.  The monument houses the San Jacinto Museum of History, which serves as the gateway to Texas culture.

I was there once with Mother, Dad, and Sandy's family. I don't remember too much about it though. Wonder why I didn't pay more attention back then? Maybe it takes getting older to appreciate things? That's a great view though.

We went there on the Sr. Trip, climbed all the way to the top of the memorial (which is a little taller than the Washington Monument) Nice view, but I wasn't for sure if I was going to make it down or not, at least it was all downhill.

While we were touring the battleship Texas, I split away from the rest of the class, wanted to see the spaces down below. I went all the way to the bilges, walking along creepy, rusted nearly falling down gangways. It gave me the heebie jeebies, looking at that dark, oily water, but it was so dark, I could barely see. I stumbled around, trying to get back to the top deck, going upwards, of course, when I found Dennis D. - he was lost, too. We finally made it back up top to a waiting and annoyed rest of the class, along with worried chaperones and a furious bus driver who wanted nothing more than to get back to his a/c motel room so he could get drunk. (just like he stayed for most of our trip...most side trips were canceled b/c he was too shit-faced to drive us)

I know mom and dad went there once and couldn't get to tour the battleship b/c G.H.W. Bush was there. I know the folks really liked Ross Perot and voted for him, but I think it was also a dislike f/ Bush after being kept from their tour of the ship.
