Took a Tumble in Tumblr

Here's the 404 page from Tumblr;  I wasn't looking for it, so the snark was gratuitous.

Banana & Man

Did you know humans share about 50% of DNA with bananas?

On a related note, I thought about adding several different things to this trivia post; my first thought was to post the dancing banana "Peanut Butter Jelly Time" video, but that was too annoying. You're welcome.  I then thought I might want to post "Venus" by Bananarama, but that doesn't have a thing to do with bananas other than in the group's name...and besides that, I've been planning on doing a post about that cover and the original song.  Then I remembered that a Beetlejuice II movie is in the works, so I settled on this scene from the first movie:

Happy President's Day!

I usually try to keep it to just one quiz per "page" in this blog, but today is President's Day, so I'll make an exception.

Besides, it keeps me from having to post some otherwise substantial and interesting content.

You Are Abraham Lincoln
You are a very principled person who can't help but worry about the world.

Your conscience weighs heavy on you.

You have the best of intentions, and you are very earnest. There's little you prefer more than the simple truth.

You are internally motivated and able to tackle almost any challenge. You don't give up, and you're very diligent.

You have high expectations and tend to be firm with those around you, including yourself. However, you are also very warm, generous, and forgiving.

An oldie, but goodie...the back side of Mount Rushmore.  If I'm Abraham Lincoln, then I'm the one with the biggest butt.

Dog Day Afternoon

Got an email from Fanbox yesterday afternoon, saying I had a fairly large amt. of money in my account.  Now, I don't remember signing up for it, but that's nothing new - I got an email from Flickr a while back telling me I needed to sign into the site if I wanted to keep my acct., so it was a distinct possibility that I had joined the site then promptly forgot about it. (as I did Flickr)   So, I went to the site to see why it was I had money in my account and when I clicked on the link, the above was where I was sent.

I read more about it and found out many on the 'net think it's a scam. It probably is because I would have had to give some sensitive information to cash in my money, but their 404 page is cute.

They can keep the money.

My (Mostly) Masculine Meals

You Eat Like a Typical Man

You prefer food that's hearty, traditional, and filling. You don't like to mess around when it comes to your meals.

You believe the plate should be focused on meat, and you really can't get enough of the stuff.

You like a meal that's big and satisfying. Nothing bums you out more than small portions.

You aren't huge on snacking, so each meal needs to hold you over until the next.

The part about my wanting meals to be mostly meat isn't quite true, but other than that, I'd agree with the results, although I've seen some women that could eat (and drink) me under the table. I'm not much on these male/female stereotypes, either, because I like quiche and I'm a real man. I'll eat most things and would try nearly anything.

NEARLY anything.  I don't think I'd put it in my mouth if it smelled bad or was still alive...especially if it was alive and wriggling.

ailurophilia

ailurophilia ai·lu·ro·phil·i·a [ahy-loor-uh-fil-ee-uh, ey-loor-] noun

a liking for cats, as by cat fanciers.

Not sure if this word describes me, because I don't just have a liking for cats, I love 'em. (Well, most of 'em, anyway; as many hang around my house, they sure love ME.)

I wonder if there's a word for a phobia about hating litter boxes?

Introducing Josh Turner

It was in my YouTube recommendations - a video of some kid named Josh Turner doing the Dire Straits "Sultans of Swing".  I probably would have ignored it except that's one of my favorite songs.  Still, I thought twice about clicking on the video because I'd seen other covers of the tune and wasn't at all impressed...however, I certainly was impressed with Mr. Turner's version.

I then watched many other of his videos and was even more impressed;  he often does other covers with a few of whom I suppose are some of his friends and sometimes accompanies a few young ladies (who also impress me with their vocal talent) on the guitar and sings harmony.  I'm not sure what-all instruments he plays, but I've so far seen him play guitars, both 6 and 12-string as well as a mandolin.  I suspect he can play several other musical instruments.

So, here's introducing Josh Turner...if you don't already know who he is.  I predict a bright future for this talented young man.

Good Movie, Bad Move

From Indiewire, a movie website.

These types of 404 pages are the most annoying to me; why would I want to search for something else if what I wanted to read in the first place wasn't there?

I'm giving the site a bad review for a bad link!

All You Need Is Love - The Beatles

The Love Test

You Experience Love Intellectually

For you, love is something you think about and make sense of. You don't love blindly.

When you love someone, it has to be the right person and the right timing. Your mind falls before your heart.

You are looking for a connection and compatibility in love. You like to get to know someone completely and totally.

You aren't a perfectionist, but you are looking to protect your heart. You know what you want and need.

CBS Matchmaker

Find your match...as long as he/she is a character on a CBS show.

Click graphic for larger view

Not sure about this one and wished I had changed some answers on my quiz so I could have got a different result. First, I've never seen Elementary, the Sherlock Holmes crime drama; second, I don't really find Lucy Liu all that attractive and lastly, Joan Watson takes the place of the male John Watson that was in the novels. 'Nuff said.

Why couldn't it have been Anna Faris from Mom or Kat Dennings from 2 Broke Girls? I don't watch those two shows, either, but I probably would if I were dating one of those stars...or at least, their characters.

albumen

albumen al·bu·men [al-byoo-muhn] noun

1. the white of an egg.
2. Botany, the nutritive matter around the embryo in a seed.
3. Biochemistry, albumin.

I knew this word, even before I started being obsessed with recipes. I'll have to say I've never heard of an "albumen omlet", though.

Here's a site where you can see where the albumen has turned into feathers.

Barcode Yourself

From the site:

Barcode Yourself is a complete, interactive experience in the series of barcode art, created using the personalized data of participants. Enter an individual's gender, weight, height, age and location, and the barcode is formed using real-world data.

The individualized barcode can then be printed, mapped, scanned, even depicted on a t-shirt or coffee mug. Uber-geeks can even test out their barcodes on their next grocery run.

It is in scanning a barcode that the project reveals its humor, like a banner that reads: Disclaimer! Human beings are not merely worth somewhere between one cent and 10 dollars.

Read more about Barcode Yourself (along with some interesting social commentary) @

blatherskite

blatherskite blath·er·skite [blath-er-skahyt] noun
1. a person given to voluble, empty talk.
2. nonsense; blather.

Certainly not a word I use; in fact, I've never seen or heard it before, but I'm afraid it describes me.

I probably should start a new blog and call it "The Blatherskite".

Apocalypse? Not Now!

You Would Survive an Apocalypse

Congratulations! You are one of the few who always has a plan B. And a plan C.

You like to be well prepared in every aspect of your life. You are very responsible and conscientious.

Zombies? Floods? Civilizational collapse? Famine? Killer clowns from outer space? No sweat for you.

People may make fun of how prepared you are, but you know they'll be knocking on your door first when things go down.

I don't think "very responsible and conscientious" really would apply to me, but...I'm definitely ready for the killer clowns.

dulcify

dulcify dul·ci·fy [duhl-suh-fahy] verb (used with object), dul·ci·fied, dul·ci·fy·ing.

1. to make more agreeable; mollify; appease.

2. to sweeten.

I wasn't familiar with this word and I'm certainly not familiar with the first definition...at the least, I'm not very good at it.

Anniversary of the British Invasion

It officially began at 8 pm on Sunday 9th February, 1964 when the live broadcast of the first Ed Sullivan Show was aired with the full Beatles line-up. The band played five songs (All My Loving, Till There Was You, She Loves You, I Saw Her Standing There and I Want To Hold Your Hand) and made broadcasting history.

Just a snippet of the first show, but someone on YouTube has made all three Ed Sullivan shows with the Beatles available in a single video.

What's Your Ideal Home?

Your Ideal Home is a Farmhouse

You want your home to be an escape from everything - including civilization. You want to be away from it all.

You don't mind having to travel a bit more for things if it means you get to come home to a starry sky every night.

You would love to get back to nature. Growing and preparing your own food is right up your alley.

There's nothing more relaxing than imagining a quiet day with fresh air and plenty of critters to keep you company.

Best Oscar Movie

With the Oscars coming up, ABC News has come up with an NCAA basketball-type bracket which allows you to rank the best Oscar winners over the past 64 years.

Easy to do; hover over each entry with your cursor to see a synopsis of each movie, then click on one to send it on to the second round. Do one side, then go over to the other. (there will be more of the bracket and you'll need to scroll down to see all the choices)

There were only a few movies I had not seen and coincidentally enough, the very first choice I had to make was between two of them (Argo and The Artist). I went ahead and voted, not only because I had to in order to complete the first round, but I had read enough about both of those movies to make an informed choice.

Other choices were much more difficult to make, because I HAD seen both and loved each but had to make a choice. (such as Patton and Midnight Cowboy) Difficult decisions aside, it was a fun thing to do. The next round will begin Feb. 6th and I'm looking forward to continue voting and to eventually see which movie gets the most votes.
